Purpose Driven Life

I like to read books. And i have some expectations from most that i do read. That might be because i spend 15 minutes or more in finding the right book to buy or read from the library. So when i decided to read a book , that has sold 25 million copies, and cost me a decent amount too, I did have high expectations. The name of the book was The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren .

It took me some time to go through some part of it. But well after reading, or rather just skimming through it, i found out nothing that i actually had started out to find. The book has a subtitle What on earth am i here for? This book is all about Christianity, rather than Metaphysics and how everything is related to God, Bible and Christ. I mean why is everything being looked at from just one stiff angle. Weird?

The main theme of the book is that we as Humans, spend a very small fraction of our life on earth and it is a test for a beautiful eternity that is waiting for us in the future ( or rather after our death ). So basically it tells us to forget our current life, the small chores, the everyday routine, the lets watch TV-with pizza thing and instead focus on the big picture. How? By doing things that help you prepare for a better forever.

Now how on the whole earth can I understand such a topic, when we i wont possibly carry any memories to Eternity (if there exists one ). And how can i think of basing my life on something i cant even feel !! People talk about living in the present, rather than brood on the past. This goes one step further! Dont brood on present, live in future.

Well there are some things that are decent about the book. Some ideas and thoughts, that if remembered by us everyday could give a purpose to life. The power of love.. to be good and so, but then these are things are such you find them in a usual philosophical book. All in all, it got me thinking, how someone can make you think of something and believe in it. Something that is not even imaginable or related to now and here.

Can you describe to ant , what our Universe is? Guess not. So its a analogy, that even we cant understand Eternity. And yet this author has made a fortune, writing this good-for-nothing book. I am not against Christianity, but well dont really think this book does justice to its title.
