Fasting seems to be a very holy event. To fast, is such a respectable thing in our country. What is so significant about fasting? Maybe for one day it is ok. It gives time for our overloaded digestive system to return to normal. But for half a lifetime?
There are millions of people who starve every year. But nobody cares. Yet when a single man called Mahatma Gandhi decided to fast? It was the rage of a nation. It showed, that Mr. Gandhi was nothing but a attention seeker. There is no right in fasting. Food was created to be eaten, not to remain untouched.
The funny thing is Mr. Gandhi wanted to live like a poor man, even though he had all luxuries available. Why? To catch the attention of entire country. And was it in real a cheap way of life? It cost much more than a normal VIPs expense to keep the appearance of Mr. Gandhi poor!
He never drank milk of Cow or Buffalo, but only goat. Because it was the poor man’s animal. But the goat whose milk he drank, was washed twice a day with Lux! It was given a diet of cow milk, apples, nuts etc. The daily food of the goat cost about Rs.10 in those days.
Then he used to travel third class. But the funny thing was, that he was the only man in that whole compartment. Because it was a security risk to allow others. So to make Mr. Gandhi travel third class, an entire compartment was booked. Is that cheap?
I dont have anything against him. What i feel is, we give way to much respect to people who dont deserve it, and yet never realise the ones who do more for the country. How many of us would want a father, who is nothing but a attention seeker? Not me at least!

He wanted to seek attention because it was the need of the moment, i don't think it was for his personal whims! He may not be as great as some say but still looking at today's politics(in our utopian country u know) i consider him 'mahatma' !
